• 7 min read

Ready to prove you're a true Mini Sudoku master? Introducing Ranked Multiplayer with a Chess-style Elo rating system - the most competitive way to play Mini Sudoku ever created!

After the success of our Challenge Friends and Time Bomb modes, thousands of players asked for one thing: a way to measure their true skill level against opponents worldwide. Today, we're thrilled to announce our most ambitious feature yet - a fully-fledged ranked multiplayer system with Chess-style Elo ratings, skill-based matchmaking, and persistent rankings!

🏆 What is Ranked Multiplayer Mini Sudoku?

Ranked Multiplayer brings the competitive intensity of Chess to Mini Sudoku. Every match affects your Elo rating - a numerical score that represents your skill level. Win matches to climb the ranks, lose to fall. It's pure skill-based competition!

⭐ Key Features:

  • Chess Elo Rating System: Start at 1000 Elo, range from 800 (Novice) to 2000+ (Grandmaster)
  • 1v1 Competitive Matches: Face off against one opponent in real-time battles
  • Create or Join Lobbies: Choose your difficulty (Easy, Medium, Hard) and find opponents
  • Persistent Rankings: Your Elo follows you across sessions - build your reputation!
  • Live Leaderboard: See how you stack up against the best players worldwide
  • Auto-Win Timer: If your opponent takes too long, you win automatically!
  • Anonymous Play: No login required - your skill is what matters

🎮 How Does Ranked Multiplayer Work?

1. Create Your Profile

Choose a unique nickname (saved to your browser, so you don't need to re-enter it). You'll start with 1000 Elo rating - the standard starting point used in Chess.

2. Create or Join a Lobby

Two ways to find a match:

3. Battle in Real-Time

Both players solve the exact same puzzle simultaneously. The player who solves it correctly first (or has the higher score if both complete) wins the match!

4. Gain or Lose Elo

After each match, your Elo rating changes based on the outcome:

🎯 Strategies to Climb the Ranked Ladder

1. Choose Your Difficulty Wisely

Start with Easy lobbies to build confidence and learn the ranked system. As your skill improves, move to Medium and Hard for tougher competition and bigger Elo gains.

2. Speed AND Accuracy

Unlike casual play, ranked rewards both speed and correctness. Practice solving quickly without making mistakes - every error costs you time!

3. Master Advanced Techniques

Check out our Essential Sudoku Techniques and Speed Solving Tips guides to sharpen your skills.

4. Stay Calm Under Pressure

Knowing an opponent is solving the same puzzle creates pressure. Take a deep breath, trust your abilities, and focus on accuracy first, speed second.

5. Learn From Every Match

Lost a match? Great! Review what went wrong. Did you rush? Miss an obvious cell? Use each defeat as a learning opportunity.

⏰ Auto-Win Timer: No More Waiting!

We respect your time. If you complete a puzzle and your opponent hasn't finished within an additional time window, you automatically win!

⏱️ Auto-Win Timers by Difficulty:

  • Easy: 1 minute after you finish
  • Medium: 1.5 minutes after you finish
  • Hard: 2 minutes after you finish

This prevents stalling and keeps matches moving at a competitive pace!

🏅 The Global Leaderboard

Track your progress on the live Elo leaderboard! See the top 100 players worldwide, their win/loss records, and where you rank among them.

The leaderboard updates in real-time after every match, so you can watch your rank climb as you improve. Can you reach the Top 10? Top 100? The challenge is on!
